Welcome to "God's Land of Ditches" November 11 2014

This site began after I found a stack of "Ditches are Deadly" bumper stickers in my boxes of stickers I've accumulated over the last 35 years.  The Ditches are Deadly stickers were part of a public relations campaign to educate the people of Albuquerque about the dangers of flash flooding, which occurs frequently here in New Mexico.  When these came out, I grabbed as many as I could.  They're still classic.  Before I knew it, I was working on this website.

God's Land of Ditches is a tribute to one of the world's finest collection of skateboarding spots in the world.  Just over 50 years ago, the New Mexico Legislature formed AMAFCA, Albuquerque Metropolitan Area Flood Control Authority.  AMAFCA was formed with the "specific responsibility for flooding problems in the greater Albuquerque area.  AMAFCA’s purpose is to prevent injury or loss of life, and to eliminate or minimize property damage. AMAFCA does this by building and maintaining flood control structures which help alleviate flooding."

AMAFCA does a damn good job of building flood control structures.  And skateboard spots.

New Mexico's ditches have long been a destination for skaters, but the secret was made famous in Thrasher Magazine in September 1987, and has attracted skaters of all abilities and skills since.  They offer perfect transitions, miles of uninterrupted, "as fast as you want" carving, big and small, steep or mellow; whatever flavor you like, you'll find it.  And most likely, you'll have it to yourself.

This site is a work in progress, and so I appreciate your patience.  I'll try to keep it updated regularly, and throw pictures, maps and updated products as I get them.  Thanks for visiting, and please support your local skate shop!
